Milky Way over Boyle Murder Lake

I saw that we had clear skies and a new moon so I decided to get up early to get some spring Milky Way shots just outside of Atlanta. During the spring time, the MW pans the early morning sky unlike the fall when it pans the sky in the early evening.

Fjallsárlón Aurora

Traveling back from Hofn, we stopped 3 times on the 2 hour ride back. This image overlooks the other glacier lagoon (frozen) of Fjallsárlón. The entire scene is being lit by a 3/4 moon.

Skaftafell Aurora

Another stop along our return to the guesthouse from Hofn. Just outside of the Skaftafell Glacier.

This is almost 30 minutes of stacked 30 second images that were used to create this startrail image of the famous Kirkjufell mountain in western Iceland.

Startrails over Mushroom Rocks

While waiting for clouds to clear around the milky way, I took 20 minutes worth of star trail images with Mushroom Rocks RMNP in the foreground. Editing tools Starstax and PS CC to blend. I needed to lower exposure level 4 stops in post since it was set for capturing Milky Way light.

Here's 44 images, each 30s long, blended together using the free program StarStax. I edited one image in LR CCC and then applied the settings, exported the images as jpegs. Setup: Canon 5DM3 with Canon 16-35mm @18mm 30s f/2.8 ISO 400.

New Smyrna Beach Zodiacal Light

-11 minutes until the 5:44AM EDT ULA Atlas 5 AEHF 5 launch and I could see the zodiacal light off to the east. I swung around to catch this shot before returning to my original composition for the rocket launch. Canon 5DM2 with Sigma ART 14mm f/1.8 lens 20s f/2 ISO 1600.
