The Front Line

This was the furthest the lava flow had traveled into the Nátthagi valley. Since then, it's now at the base of a natural berm 1/4 mile away. Craig and I hiked the left side all the way up to the hiking trail seen in the distance.

Evil in hiding

On Jun 14 and after 30 min of hiking into the Nátthagi valley, we came across the latest of the lava flow. This image of the hot lava evil face caught my eye. Canon 5DM4 with handheld Canon 100-400mm @ 400mm f/5.6 1/20s ISO 12800.

Pile-up

After walking halfway up the hill from the Nátthagi valley, you come across this pileup of lava that continued to grow upward. This image was taken at almost 1am.

Sense of Scale

You can sense this hiker admiring the scene in front of him. He was just coming down the side of the newest lava flow. At this point in the evening, it was probably at it's darkest. I underexposed the image so that I wouldn't blow out the highlights in the lava.
